Make a Pie Chart from Sales Data

Sales data piles up in rows, but sales questions come as shares. What fraction of revenue is the flagship product? How dependent are we on one region? Is the new channel actually material yet? A pie chart answers share questions directly.

Get the data in however it already exists: paste two columns from Excel or Sheets, upload the CSV your CRM exported, or type a handful of numbers. The parser strips currency symbols and separators, so "$1,240,500" pastes cleanly.

One chart, one question. Revenue by product line is one chart; by region is another. The save feature keeps them all, and each has its own shareable link for the team.

When to use it

  • Revenue split by product line, region, or sales channel
  • Pipeline composition by stage or by deal size band
  • New versus returning customer revenue
  • Rep or team contribution to a quarter, when the team is small enough to read

Tips for a better chart

  • Chart revenue, not deal counts, unless counts are truly the story. Ten small deals can outnumber one whale that matters more.
  • A doughnut with the quarter's total in the center makes a strong dashboard tile.
  • Concentration is the classic insight: if one slice passes 50 percent, say so in the title.
  • Compare periods with two saved charts using identical palettes, so only the data changes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste sales data straight from Excel?

Yes. Copy the category and amount columns and paste. Currency symbols, commas, and blank rows are handled automatically, with a note about anything that was skipped.

What sales breakdowns work best as pies?

Ones with 3 to 6 segments that sum to a total: revenue by region, by product family, by channel. For 20 products or trends across months, use bars or lines instead.

Is my sales data safe to put in this tool?

The chart is generated locally in your browser. Your figures are not uploaded to a server. If you share a chart URL, the data is encoded in that link, so share it like you would share the numbers.

Can I show a total in the middle of the chart?

Use the doughnut type, which leaves the center open. Put the total in the chart title or drop it into the center space in your slide tool after export.
